Non-acute hazardous waste covers U-listed discarded commercial chemical products and waste hazardous by characteristic. It counts toward generator status at the ordinary 100 kg and 1,000 kg monthly thresholds rather than the 1 kg acute threshold.

Consolidation is where the saving is
Most sites generate several small streams rather than one large one. Shipping each separately multiplies mobilization cost, and mobilization is frequently the largest line on a small generator's invoice.
Consolidating compatible streams onto a single scheduled pickup, with segregation maintained inside the load, usually costs materially less than the sum of the individual collections. It takes planning rather than money.
Common questions
How is non-acute different from acute?
The counting threshold. Acute waste counts against 1 kg per month; non-acute counts against the ordinary 100 kg and 1,000 kg category thresholds. Both are hazardous waste and both are manifested.
Does U-listed waste need special handling?
Standard hazardous waste handling applies. The listing matters for the land disposal restriction treatment standard and for which facilities can accept it, rather than for on site handling.
Can different streams ship together?
Compatible streams can share a load with segregation maintained. Incompatible materials never share a container, and the manifest reflects every stream and every code.
